Amongst my mail today is a PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL notification on a car registration-style security mailer that tells me “Your mortgage originally funded with Marine Bk/fl Keys in the amount of $185,000 can be restructured to a new payment of only $965. Came from zip code 92677 as metered, presorted standard United States Mail. With an eagle and everything.

Now, I know this is a scam because I’ve never had a mortgage originally funded with Marine Bk/fl Keys in the amount of $185,000 or in any other amount. In fact, I’ve never even done business with Marine Bk/fl Keys or even with Marine Bank-Florida Keys. And I don’t have a mortgage. Turns out that, in very small letters at the bottom of the page,

St Fin Corp dba Star Financial is not sponsored by, affiliated with, information was not provided by, nor was this solicitations authorized by Marine Bk/fl Keys.

Hey, at least they got the Nigerian English down properly.

I didn’t like Firefox’ new display skin on 3.6.x and I didn’t like losing ImgLikeOpera so I bit the bullet and installed Firefox 5.0.

Version 5.0 for Windows has a new look,
super speed, and even more awesomeness!

I don’t like Firefox’ new display skin but I have ImgLikeOpera back.

Firefox reported that FeedFilter (the lovely Facebook fixer) is incompatible with version 5 despite the Mozilla add-on page indicating it works fine. I updated directly from Russell Gilbert’s delicious Chocolate Software. The Skype extension doesn’t work but I don’t care, as long as Skype works.

The big issue is a small one. Firefox changed the display on 3.6.x so the default page display (images, fonts and so on) is T-I-N-Y. Emphasis added. The menu bar, bookmarks, and other operating controls are all smaller, too. Like 4pt in 1920 x 1080 resolution. That’s T-I-N-Y.

I hoped that was a quirk and that moving to Tuesday’s release 5.0 would take me back. Nope. And to make it more interesting, the implementation plunks a second and third icon on the task bar when the program is running and you open a window or two. I just ended up with three copies of FF open.

There is undoubtedly a way to fix all that but I haven’t found it yet.

It is wise to fix things that are broke. It is unwise to fix things that aren’t. Word.

I do not understand the weather sites. Inaccuweather™ forecast the following for this week:

Monday, 100°, Bright sunshine and hot
Tuesday, 102°, Sunny and seasonably hot
Wednesday, 101°, Sunny and very warm
Thursday, 105°, Sunny and very warm
Friday, 109°, Hot with sunshine
Saturday, 105°, Very warm with sunshine
Sunday, 106°, Sunny and hot

100° is hot. Got it.
109° is hot. I agree. Boy howdy.
105° is very warm? Starting to sound pretty “breezy” around here.

I like a good fish story.

We have 2.7 English language radio stations here in South Puffin. One has awakened me for years with a program called the Morning Mix. I like it because Anne O’Bannon and Josh Mothner have assembled a cohort of interesting people to talk with. My mornings have each had an hour of newsy chat about the schools, the community theater, real estate, politics, law enforcement, road repair, and even water sports.

The Morning Mix has changed.

CJ Geotis, a “life-long fisherman who followed his dream to live in the Florida Keys” is a business consultant, fishing columnist, and now radio host. He has hosted the morning show for a while now with fish after fish after fish story. And his show seems to go on all morning long.

I like CJ; I miss the variation of the Mix.
