Thorsday Thorn

July 21. Gas prices went up a nickle here in the protected pocket with the highest gas prices in New England. I found out from an unconfirmed source that the station up near Jay with the lowest prices in Vermont at $3.319/gallon buys its gas from a Canadian distributor. So apparently does the Mobil distributor with the most stations here.

August 2. I paid $3.459/gallon for regular in Essex Junction. News says gas prices are going up again nationwide. I’ll burn five of those gallons today.

August 8. Gas prices are up sharply again. We saw $3.669-3.719/gallon pretty much everywhere we went, from North Puffin to Barre. Even (most of) the Essex Junction stations where I paid $3.459 on Thursday were at $3.599.

Tuesday Torn

Enola “Fanny” Guay and the rest of the lefty loon brigade went batpoop crazy over BP’s past Deepwater Horizon oil disaster and Shell’s current Arctic drilling rig stumbling around the Aleutians. Shell and BP’s rigs met all U.S. safety and environmental regulations.

Cuba (Cuba!) is drilling holes just minutes from the ecologically sensitive Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and is there a peep out of the Far Green?

Nope.

Shell and BP’s rigs met U.S. safety and environmental regulations. Does Cuba even care about U.S. safety and environmental regulations?

Nope.

Thorsday Thorn: Not a Single Dime

You will not see your taxes increase by a single dime, not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains tax …

“It’s a tax,” Chief Justice John Roberts decreed.

Liberals and conservatives alike threw out George H. W. Bush when he promised “no new taxes.” Conservatives are already on on board to dump Barack Obama for that and a litany of other evils.

It’s time for the liberals to fish or cut bait: you can either dump your great and exalted O for lying to you or run off with your tail between your legs and pretend that a tax is not a tax is not actually a tax.

Thorsday Trials: @#$%^ Comcast’’s Digital Diminishment. Part III

!@#$%^ Comcast has changed their online TV listings again. And they were dumb enough to include a “Tell us what you think” survey button. No good can come of this.

We’re really excited to share our new TV Listings with you and want to know what you think!
1. Do you think this version of TV Listings is better or worse than previous versions?

There was no button for “This Sucks.”
2. What makes this version of TV Listings better or worse?
You took away the easy navigation drop menu that allowed jumping to a different day or time.
3. What other improvements would you like to see in TV Listings?
Dump this turkey. Reinstate the prior version. Or the one before that. Barring that, add a navigation drop menu that allows jumping to a different day or time.

No good can come of this: either they will tabulate the survey results for a year without telling us anything or they plan to ignore the results entirely. Either will annoy the crap out of us. And then they can change the interface for the worse again next year, telling us they responded to the survey.

Sure would please us (all) if we could deal with somebody other than !@#$%^ Comcast.
